The Frankfurt distribution center for the "Tianfu" cross-border highway shuttle was recently officially inaugurated, marking the establishment of a European transit hub for the service. This development is expected to drive a more than 40% increase in European shuttle routes, further opening up a major westbound highway freight corridor from Sichuan to overseas markets. The announcement was made on Oct. 27 by the operator, Sichuan SPSI Cloud Port Development Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the provincial state-owned Sichuan Port & Navigation Investment Group.

As the "fourth mode of transport" alongside maritime, rail, and air shipping, international road transport offers flexibility and "door-to-door" delivery advantages. With transit times faster than those of rail and waterway transport and costs lower than air freight, it has become a vital supplement for exporting "Made in Sichuan" goods. Currently, the "Tianfu" shuttle operates multiple routes connecting Central Asia, Europe, ASEAN, and the Middle East, transporting over 100 categories of goods. On the China-Europe route, for example, shipments departing from factories in Chengdu are expected to reach major European destination factories within 10 to 12 days.

    Inside the Frankfurt distribution center

Located in Lorsch, Germany, the Frankfurt distribution center covers a warehousing area of 28,000 square meters and has a daily processing capacity of 25,000 to 30,000 parcels. The center primarily handles electronic products, machinery and equipment, cross-border e-commerce goods, and specialty products from Sichuan, with its business covering Germany and neighboring European countries.

Fei Teng, General Manager of the Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group Co., LTD., explained that prior to the establishment of the distribution center, individual trucks often served only a single client, frequently resulting in wasted transport capacity. As Frankfurt is a key logistics hub for European freight, the new center enables outbound cargo to be consolidated and redistributed there to fulfill orders from multiple clients. It also facilitates the consolidation of return cargoes from cross-border e-commerce, thereby broadening freight collection channels.

The operation of the distribution center will further improve the network of nodes along the Eurasian transport corridor. Since the beginning of this year, the "Tianfu" China-Europe route has completed 262 trips, and following the center's completion, the volume is projected to increase by more than 40%. Looking ahead, the operator will focus on enhancing service capabilities on the European end, aiming to provide cross-border sellers with a more stable, faster, and localized fulfillment base in Europe.
