On Sept. 29, Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Hubert Hurkacz 2-0 in the final, bringing the eight-day 2026 Chengdu Open, an ATP 250 tournament, to a successful close. This marked the seventh ATP Tour final of Davidovich Fokina's career, as he successfully claimed his second championship title, earning 250 world ranking points and $184,000 in prize money.

As the No. 2 seed and world No. 28, Davidovich Fokina enjoyed a relatively smooth path to the final. After receiving a first-round bye, he defeated Argentine player Francisco Cerundolo with two sets of 6-4, before comfortably overcoming qualifier Alex Michelsen 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, facing an in-form qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili, Davidovich Fokina rallied from a set down to win two consecutive sets, securing a 2-1 comeback victory. In contrast, No. 5 seed Hurkacz had a more arduous journey, having played from the first round and endured multiple tiebreaks, resulting in significant physical exertion. Although Hurkacz entered the match with extensive experience, having won eight titles in his previous 13 finals compared to Davidovich Fokina's single title in six prior finals, the circumstances of this encounter were markedly different.

At the start of the final, both players engaged in an intense battle in the opening game of the first set, with the physically fresher Davidovich Fokina gaining a slight edge to take the set 6-4. Hurkacz regained his form in the second set, firing nine aces to force a tiebreak. However, despite holding a 6-3 lead in the tiebreak, Hurkacz failed to capitalize on his opportunities and was ultimately defeated 9-7 by Davidovich Fokina. With a straight-sets victory, Davidovich Fokina claimed the championship, securing his second ATP Tour title following his triumph at the Mallorca Championships in June.
