On the afternoon of February 9, 2025, the “Plateau Rare Species Photography and Videography Exhibition and Qinghai–Tibet Plateau Ecological Protection Community Co-creation Event” kicked off at the Chengdu Reception Room Space of Ya’an Tea Factory Co., Ltd. in Wuhou District, Chengdu City. The event was hosted by the nature photography and videography team of Friends of Himalayan Creatures and Ya’an Tea Factory Co., Ltd.
The team has long been observing wildlife in the high-altitude, cold regions of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, at elevations above 4,500 meters. They photograph animals including Tibetan antelopes, black-necked cranes, and wild yaks, focusing on their behaviors and the changes in their ecological habitats.
This event revolves around the community co-creation for the ecological protection of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, aiming to advocate for social participation and collective attention to the ecological protection and promotion of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. As the first stop of the Friends of Himalayan Creatures’ “City Reception Room” in 2025, the Chengdu stop has attracted managers from various communities, encompassing local nature education, science popularization, cultural and tourism research, and culture enthusiasts.
The event was held in diverse forms, such as a high-altitude rare species photography and videography exhibition, award-winning documentary screening, and on-site sharing and discussion. Through the stories of plateau pikas, Tibetan antelopes, black-necked cranes, and other creatures narrated in the nature documentary “Fantastic Animals in Xizang”, the audience experienced the magnificence and fragility of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, expressing that they were deeply moved and had a deeper understanding of the protection of plateau ecology.
Meiduo, co-founder of the team of Friends of Himalayan Creatures and a national-level nature educator, along with Zhang Lina, founder of the team and director of the nature documentary, shared their stories. The two speakers not only showcased the magnificence and fragility of the plateau ecology, but also made the audience deeply aware of the hardships and significance of ecological protection efforts. Through their narratives, more people came to understand that protecting the rare species and ecological environment of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau is not only about preserving the biodiversity of this land, but also about ensuring the future of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
At the event, the “Chengdu City Reception Room Plan” 2025 was officially released, which would continue to host community events including exhibitions, themed sharing sessions, and science popularization in nature education, focused on the protection of 8 high-altitude species and the joint construction plan of 8 natural reserves. The release of the plan also marks a new step taken by the team of Friends of Himalayan Creatures in exploring the deep integration of ecological protection of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau and urban civilization.
