“Experts’ Insights into Sichuan Baijiu” (Season 1 Episode 2) Kicks off at Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum

    10月23日,由四川省文化和旅游厅指导、省直相关部门支持、四川日报全媒体主办、五粮液为独家战略合作伙伴的“大咖话川酒”(第一季)第二期,作为“2024年首届川酒文化周”重要活动之一在成都杜甫草堂开讲。

    On October 23rd, as a key highlight of the “2024 First Sichuan Baijiu Culture Week”, “Experts’ Insights into Sichuan Baijiu” (Season 1 Episode 2) kicked off at Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum with Wuliangye acting as its exclusive strategic partner. This event is guided by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, supported by relevant provincial government departments, and organized by Sichuan Daily All-media.

    In the Chinese civilization spanning 5,000 years, Baijiu and its culture, shining like pearls, take pride in their place. As one of the most important places of origin of Chinese Baijiu, Sichuan occupies a decisive position in the whole alcohol industry across China and even the world. Its secret of being preserved for millennia lies in its uniquely favorable natural environment, superb brewing techniques, and the artisan spirit of pursuing perfection.

    来自历史、文化、民俗及酒业等领域的权威专家们齐聚,从历史与考古、民俗与文化、古代与现代生活方式变迁等多个角度和层次,对川酒文化的丰富内涵和独特价值进行了全面解读。

    This event brought together authoritative experts from varied fields such as history, culture, folk customs, and the alcohol industry. They provided the audience with a comprehensive interpretation of the profound connotations and unique values of the Sichuan Baijiu culture from diverse perspectives and levels, including history and archeology, folk customs and culture, and the changes of lifestyles from ancient to modern times.

    中央电视台原台长、中国文联原副主席胡占凡围绕“佳酿传千年”主题,带领现场嘉宾穿越时空,共同感受酒香、酒韵、酒意。霍巍、李明泉、杨柳、蒋蓝等重量级嘉宾也应邀参加圆桌对话。

    Centered around the theme of “Well-brewed Baijiu Preserved for Millennia”, Hu Zhanfan, former Station Controller of China Central Television and former Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, led the attending guests to travel through time and space and experience Baijiu’s fragrance, tasting pleasure, and tipsy effects. Many high-profile guests were also invited to take part in the round-table discussion, such as Huo Wei, Li Mingquan, Yang Liu, and Jiang Nan.

    “川酒之所以走遍天下,更离不开与文化的相互依存、相互促进。”在胡占凡看来,川酒承载了四川人民的历史、情感、智慧和创新精神,成为巴蜀文化的重要载体和组成部分,而文化为川酒的发展提供了丰富的土壤和广阔的舞台。

    As Hu noted, “Sichuan Baijiu’s success in reaching global audiences lies in the interdependency and mutual promotion among cultures”. From his perspective, Sichuan Baijiu carries Sichuan people’s histories, emotions, wisdom, and innovative spirit, becoming a significant carrier and element of Bashu culture. In turn, the culture also provides a rich foundation and a vast stage for the development of Sichuan Baijiu.

    自古至今,司马相如、李白、杜甫、李商隐、苏东坡、陆游等留下的歌咏川酒的诗词佳作车载斗量,不仅丰富了川酒的文化内涵,也为后人留下了宝贵的文化遗产,成为中国诗词大观园中醉人的奇葩。此外,四川独特的民俗文化也为川酒的成长壮大提供了强大的助力。

    Since ancient times, numerous poets including Sima Xiangru, Li Bai, Du Fu, Li Shangyin, Su Dongpo, Lu You, and so on, have composed countless excellent poems praising Sichuan Baijiu, which have not only enriched the cultural connotation of Sichuan Baijiu but also left a valuable cultural heritage for future generations. Such poems represent a unique treasure of Chinese poetry. In addition, the unique folk culture of Sichuan also boosts the growth of Sichuan Baijiu.

    During the round-table discussion, the guests also traced the history of Sichuan Baijiu culture from different perspectives, such as history, culture, folk customs, and lifestyle, and jointly discussed the secret of Sichuan Baijiu’s unparalleled position in the world and the mystery of how Sichuan Baijiu culture and excellent traditional Chinese culture complement each other while exuding growing vitality over time.

    The extensive and profound Chinese civilization and the long-standing Chinese culture have generated the foundational, deep-rooted, and enduring values of Chinese Baijiu, created the veins of Chinese Baijiu-brewing culture, and composed the long narrative of the world’s distilled liquor civilization. As the essence of Chinese Baijiu culture, Sichuan Baijiu embodies the locals’ wisdom and ingenuity, is integrated with Sichuan’s customs and charm, and serves as a bridge between the historical memories and the spirit of the times.

    Nowadays, Sichuan Baijiu culture has become the most unique and significant component of the Chinese alcohol culture. As the epitome of Sichuan Baijiu culture, Wuliangye has been passed down for over 1,000 years, representing not only the pride of Sichuan Baijiu, but also the solidest foundation for Sichuan Baijiu to guide Chinese Baijiu’s development. 

    五粮液元明古窖池群的使用从未间断,五粮液“非遗”古法酿造技艺的承袭从未间断,五粮液工匠精神的承继从未间断,五粮液对卓越品质的追求从未间断,五粮液对“和美”价值的传承与弘扬从未间断……无断代的活态传承,意味着川酒技艺、川酒历史与川酒文化最有可能实现真正意义上的追根溯源,也意味着通过川酒溯源最有可能实现对中华酒文化的挖掘与丰富。

    As is known to all, Wuliangye’s use of ancient cellars from the Yuan and Ming dynasties, its preservation of its “intangible cultural heritage” ancient brewing techniques, its commitment to craftsmanship, its pursuit of excellent quality, and its inheritance and promotion of the culture of “harmonious coexistence” have never been ceased. The continuous and dynamic inheritance of Sichuan Baijiu indicates that its craftsmanship, history, and culture are most likely to achieve true recurrence of its origins. Furthermore, by tracing the origin of Sichuan Baijiu, there is a significant possibility to explore and enrich the Chinese alcohol culture.

    “The continuous inheritance is not only the pride of Wuliangye, but also the solid foundation of Chinese Baijiu’s development led by Sichuan Baijiu.” The guests attending the event noted that they would cooperate with each other and make collaborative efforts to protect, perpetuate, and carry forward this precious “inheritance” and jointly write a new chapter of “representative savoury Baijiu from China”.
