Ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival, we asked Singapore Consul-General Joel Tan how he was planning to celebrate the event. Mr Tan explained that Sichuan and Singapore actually shared many similarities. For example, both Singapore and Sichuan enjoy spicy food, and noodles are popular in both places. Another similarity is that both Singaporeans and Sichuanese judge food by its own intrinsic quality, rather than the atmosphere you eat it in. Mr Tan said that he had been visiting as many of the hole-in-the-wall local eateries that he could. He had found that in Sichuan, as in Singapore, the simplest settings could often be the best places to look for gourmet food.

During this Mid-Autumn Festival, Mr Tan went to one of these local eateries to learn how to make some well-known Sichuan dishes, and also to share some of his favourite dishes from home. In the video, we will see how successful he was in learning the secrets of local favourite like dan dan noodles and Sichuan spicy crab, as well as how he brings Singapore classics like laksa and Singapore chilli crab to Sichuan.
