Chengdu 2021 FISU Games Welcomes Flame Travelling From Turin

    The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games welcomed its flame travelling from Turin, Italyon Friday morning atthe Jinsha Site Museumin Chengdu.

    In January, the flame of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Gameswas lit in Turin,the hostof the first Summer Universiade. Today, FISU VicePresidentShen Zhenofficiallyhanded over thisflameof hope to Chengdu, the hostof the 31st FISU World University Games that will take place from 26 June to 7 July this year.

    The torch of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games"Rong Huo"made its international debutatthe Jinsha Site Museumon 31 August 2021, andtheflame lantern and the flame cauldron were introduced to the publicat the Chengdu Museumon 23 December 2021.

    Chengdu was confirmed as the host on 13 December2018. In just three years, the city has prepareditself well for thegrand gathering ofuniversitystudentsfrom around the world.

    At the ceremony, representativesof Chengdu citizensand universitystudentspassedtheflame lantern of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games to the main stage, and the flameescorts drew the flame from the lanterntravelling from Turin to light the lantern of the Games, following by the lighting of thetorchand the flame cauldron.

     

    Luo Zhihuan, the first torchbearer of theOlympic Winter GamesBeijing 2022 and China’sfirst world championinwintersports, sent his best wishes for a successful Chengdu 2021 FISU Games viavideo.

    A Sichuan-themed exhibition featuring the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games, which was held at the 2022 Beijing Media Centre during the Olympic Winter GamesBeijing 2022,received more than 600 paintings of the torch of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games from young reporters and university student volunteers. Xu Liaoyuan, the designer of the torch, flame lantern andflame cauldronof the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games, presented framed paintings on stage at the ceremony. These works are invested with blessings from the Olympic Winter GamesBeijing 2022to the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, which symbolises that it is time for the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games to come on stage.

    With the escorts finally fetching the flame from the cauldronand sending it back to its storage site, the ceremony, which was conducted under containment measures of the COVID-19 pandemic, drew to a successful end.

    More events, including the selection of flamebearers as well as online and offline FlameRelay, are planned to welcome the upcoming Chengdu 2021 FISU Games.
