All Eyes on Sichuan’s Bing Dwen Dwen! Live Broadcast Attracts 26 Media from Home and Abroad

2月11日上午，冬奥会主媒体中心的中外媒体记者在大屏幕前和四川“冰墩墩”来了个线上约会。直播中，成都大熊猫繁育研究基地的月亮产房内，一只圆滚滚、毛茸茸的熊猫幼崽上演了“倒挂金钩”。一旁，四川国际传播中心主播林嘉薇、基地动物行为科学家詹姆斯(James Ayala)、讲解员谭文文正用英文作精彩介绍。憨态可掬的四川“冰墩墩”，让强势“围观”的美联社、日本共同社、明镜周刊、人民日报、央广总台、中新社等26家媒体机构记者忍俊不禁。

On the morning of February 11, Chinese and foreign reporters at the main media center of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics had an "online date" with Sichuan’s Bing Dwen Dwen. In the live broadcast, a chubby and fluffy panda cub is hanging upside down from the bamboo in the Moonlight Nursery House of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Lin Jiawei, an anchorfrom Sichuan International Communication Centre, James, an animal behavior scientist from the base and Tan Wenwen, a guide from the base are giving introductions in English. The lovely Bing Dwen Dwen attracted wide attention, with journalists from 26 media organizations participating, including Associated Press, Kyodo News, Spiegel Online, People's Daily, China Media Group and China News Service.

据了解，由于疫情防控需求，外国记者无法走出冬奥闭环感受冬奥会主办国和主办城市的风采，1月7日至今，冬奥会主媒体中心以直播连线与线下相结合的方式，借助远程视频采访设备，邀请英文主播带领境外注册记者“走进”天坛公园、颐和园、上海市武康路、广州永庆坊等地，先后推出了10场“中国城市形象系列线上观光采访活动”直播，与闭环外市民“面对面”交流互动。而11日推出的这场四川站直播，因为火遍全球的“冰墩墩”而备受关注。

Due to epidemic prevention and control, foreign journalists cannot go outside the closed-loop to experience the picturesque scenery in China. From January 7th to today, the Main Media Centre combined live and offline broadcasting with remote video interviewing equipment and invited English-speaking anchors to give online tours of renowned scenic spots, such as the Temple of Heaven Park, the Summer Palace, Shanghai Wukang Road, Guangzhou Yongqingfang. Up to now, the "Online Chinese City Tour" was held in a total of 11 cities and Sichuan station today has received attention worldwide because of Bing Dwen Dwen.

“冰墩墩”以国宝大熊猫为原型。据了解，设计团队曾专门到四川实地考察大熊猫形体和姿态，优化设计细节，这才有了如今“白尾巴”、“内八字”的可爱冰墩墩。而成都大熊猫繁育研究基地与奥运会的缘分也不浅，国际奥委会主席托马斯 ·巴赫命名的大熊猫“奥林匹亚”、出身“体育世家”的大熊猫“晶晶”都住在这里。

Bing Dwen Dwen is modeled after the national treasure, the giant panda. The design team once come to Sichuan specifically for the shape and posture of the giant panda and finally presented to the world an adorable Olympic mascot with white-tails andpigeon-toes. The Chengdu Research Base for Giant Panda Breeding has a strong connection with the Olympic Games. The Giant Panda "Olympia", named by IOC President Thomas Bach, and the Giant Panda "JingJing", who comes from a "sports family", both live here.

直播现场，英文主播通过镜头实时展现熊猫幼崽和成年大熊猫的“安逸”生活，以线上互动问答的方式科普大熊猫知识。可爱的熊猫幼崽“圈粉”无数，来自OBS(奥林匹克广播服务公司)的记者Duchêne直呼下辈子想做熊猫，希望疫情结束以后能够亲自来大熊猫的故乡成都一睹风采。

Duringthe broadcast, the English-speaking anchor showed the life of panda cubs and adult pandas in the live streaming, and introducedknowledge about pandas through online interactive Q&A. Panda cubs are so cute that Duchêne, a journalist from OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Service), said that he wanted to be a panda in his next life and hoped to come to Chengdu, the home of the pandas, to see the cubs in person after the epidemic is over.

直播中，被称为“奥林匹克公主”的熊猫“金宵”、在网络上人气超高的熊猫幼崽“雅颂”，纷纷与大家见面。同时，来自美国亚特兰大动物园、西班牙马德里动物园、法国博瓦尔动物园、德国柏林动物园的熊猫饲养员也与大熊猫同框送上新年祝福视频。主播、专家、讲解员还通过亲手制作熊猫元宵的方式，为奥运健儿加油助威，送去新春祝福。

The panda "JinXiao", known as the "Olympic Princess", and "YaSong", a very popular panda cub on the internet, all met with the audience in today’s live streaming. Meanwhile, panda keepers from Zoo Atlanta (USA), Madrid Zoo (Spain), Beauval Zoo (France) and Berlin Zoo (Germany) also sent videosof New Year's greetings with the giant pandas in it. The anchor, scientist and guide all made Panda Yuanxiao together to wish the Olympic athletes the best of luck and everyone a Happy New Year.
