In March this year, the staff of Daxiangling natural reserve management bureau found the Koklass pheasants, national second-class protected animals, in a set of photos. But Sichuan people would like to call them "mountain ducks".

Koklass pheasants are associated with ducks because of their unique voice. They usually sing in the early morning and evening with a hoarse voice which sounds like drakes' crow instead of pheasants' crow.

Koklass pheasants are not good at flying and rarely spread theirs wings, but they can run fast and smoothly on the rugged mountain roads. However, they are not good fighters as they rarely take the initiative in battles.

Koklass pheasants become active from April to July – this is the breeding season and they need to show themselves off to find a good match.
