Confederate roses are ligneous plants, and its flowers are white, pink, or red.

According to a Chinese legend, an ancient Shu emperor had a beautiful concubine who loved flowers. She was attracted by the confederate flowers in a flower fair. To compliment his beloved concubine, the emperor issued the imperial edict of planting confederate roses on every street of Chengdu. When this project was completed, the emperor and his concubine ascended the tower to appreciate the flowers. Therefore, Chengdu was entitled the “City of Confederate Rose”

In 1983, the confederate rose officially became Chengdu's city flower.
