Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark boasts the Jurassic fossil site, the salt well site, and the lantern culture.
In 2008, Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark was officially approved by UNESCO to join the Global Geopark Network. It is the first world-class geopark named after a city in China.
There are about 10,000 fossil bone specimens of more than 200 species of dinosaurs and other vertebrates in the park. Fossils are abundant, diverse and well-preserved. The geopark is known as "a new milestone in the history of dinosaur research in China".
