Located in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Mount Gonggais the highest peak in Sichuan Province, and is therefore called "The King of Shu Mountain".

"Gong", in the Tibetan language has the meaning of "ice and snow". "Ga" is "white". "Gongga", that is, "white iceberg", which also means "the highest snow mountain".

As a typical representative of Hengduan mountains, one of the 25 biodiversity hotspots in the world, and important ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Mount Gongga has extremely important ecological status. At the same time, the ecosystem landscape types of Mount Gongga are very diverse. It can be said that it is the most sensitive "climate change indicator" in the Hengduan Mountains.

It is also an internationally renowned mountaineering mecca, and is extremely difficult to climb, even being evaluated as "far more difficult to summit than Everest".

In Mount Gongga, snow and ice piled up here and developed into the 74 modern glaciers. However, with global warming and other factors, the glaciers in the Gongga region have now strongly retreated and thinned. It is urgent to protect the glaciers.
