Dadu River, which was called Mo River in the ancient time, is an important branch in the upper Yangtze River.
The meandering river of thousands of miles has been famous for its historical story. Now, it's important for the rich hydropower resources.
Luding County is the divide of upstream and midstream of Dadu River, and Tongjiezi hydropower station in Leshan City is the divide of midstream and downstream. According to the statistics in Fuluzhenhydrometric station in the downstream, the mean annual discharge of Dadu River is 1510 stere per second, and the mean annual runoff is 47.3 billion stere per second, 10 times of that of Yellow River.
With great fall head, high flow rate and clean water, Dadu River is perfect for hydroelectric development. According to the statics, the mainstream of Dadu River( Shuangjiangkou to Tongzijie) owns 19.77 million kw of theorical hydropower resources, making Dadu River the fifth of the 13 national hydroelectric bases.
