The completion of Ertan Hydropower Station has given Yalong River a new landscape – Ertan National Forest Park. Originating from Bayan Har Mountains on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Yalong River flows all the way down, forming a number of mudflats alongthe way.

The dam site of Ertan Hydropower Station is built at Ertan, which is the largest hydropower station built in China in the 20th century. The surging Yalong River flows here and is stopped by a 240-meter-high dam and then pours down through a flood relief hole.

With the completion of Ertan Hydropower Station, the reservoir, large area of mountains and forests have formed Ertan National Forest Park. The magnificent hydropower station, lushgreen mountains, majestic primeval forests, vast blue lake, and the unique customs of the ethnic minorities living here make it a tourist area with various functions such as tourism, exploration, entertainment, holiday and recreation.
