If you hear the guqin-like sound around the streams and ponds of Mount Emei, you can stop and see if there's an Emei music frog.

The Emei music frog has a beautiful voice which has attracted the researchers. In fact, their "instrument" is a pair of external vocal sac under the corpora allata. When they sing, the vocal sac will plump up and the vibration of air causes resonance and leads to the deep or ringing sound.

Besides, they are good architects. Their nests are hemispherical or spherical, built next to the ponds. Firm and smooth, they are the sweet dwellings to defend against the enemies.

The male frogs have deeper and more varied voice which can attract the female frogs to mate and spawn. Therefore, their nests become the nurseries where the tadpoles grow up.
