There’re 14 kinds of sunbirds in the world and 6 kinds in China. Mrs. Gould’s sunbirds are the most familiar sunbirds in Southwest China. Bird viewers have taken the photos of them in Chengdu and Luzhou of Sichuan province.

Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird is also called Aethopyga gouldiae. They are in small size and weigh less than 10 grams. They mainly inhabit in the broad-leaved forests and valley forests in highland and basins of 1000 to 3500 meters and usually seek food at sunrise. Their feathers shine brightly and colorfully under the sun. That’s the reason why they’re called “little phoenix” or “fire phoenix”.
