The Nymphalidae, which are medium- to large-sized butterflies, are characterized by reduced forelegs that are usually hairy and brush-like. They are also called four-footed butterflies because they have only two pairs of walking legs.
Araschnia doris is a butterfly species belonging to the Nymphalidae family. Its special feature is that the front and back sides of its wings are covered with intricate yellowish-brown spots, as if it had a leopard print. The color spots and the white broad bands and mesh that divide them provide excellent camouflage.
In the jungle, it can fly quickly, go straight to the canopy, and spend a long time in the upperlevels of the forest, rarely on the ground.
