Dorcus titanus platymelus is "fully armed" with dark hard armor. Every male has a pair of long "clamps" on the top of its heads, like a pair of serrated "scissors", which are its upper jaws, while females do not have them. Please do not touch their "scissors" because your fingers are very likely to be pinched.

Males are aggressive and grumpy. In the case of competing for territory, mate or food, males will use the "clamps" to fight without hesitation, and the losers will be heartlessly thrown away from the tree.

Dorcus titanus platymelus has a lifespan of 1-2 years which is usually longer than other beetles. In the wild, adults feed on tree sap or small insects. It is more likely to be found in tree holes or sap areas.
