Have you ever heard of Guan Yu's story of "scraping bones to cure poison"? Guan was wounded by a poison arrow, which was related to the plant introduced today -- Aconitum hemsleyanum, commonly known as climbing monk's hood.

Aconitum hemsleyanum is native to central and western China where it mostly grows in woodland margins.

It mainly grows at an altitude of 1700-2200 meters and is widely distributed in the mountainous areas of western Sichuan. It has twining stems and tenses, and pentagonal leaves which are like palms holding up clusters of blue-purple flowers.

Despite its impressive appearance, it is highly toxic. In ancient times, soldiers often smeared its juice on arrows to make poison arrows before fighting. There were also hunters who make them to kill wild animals.
