Panzhihua, the Chinese name for cotton-tree flowers, is the only city in China named after a flower and located at the southern end of Sichuan. In March and April every year, the fiery cotton-tree flowers are in full bloom in the streets and alleys of Panzhihua City.

Cotton trees are tall and straight. The flowers bloom like flaming fire and connect each other in red clusters. They contrast with the blue sky and white clouds, forming a colorful landscape.

The cotton tree blooms first, then leaves. The cotton tree is tall, big, and majestic, with stretched branches. The tree age can reach hundreds of years, so it is also called the "hero tree".

Xu Beihong,a famous Chinese painter, said, "It is as bright as the morning sun, and the height is equal to the blue sky. Whoever has a heroic spirit, the cotton tree can be a teacher." These words praise the heroic spirit of cotton trees. Panzhihua, a heroic city, is full of cotton tree flowers every spring, which is exactly "the flower is a city, the city is a flower".
