The yellow-throated marten (Martes flavigula) has a slender body, relatively short limbs,a slightly flat head, a brightly colored coat looking like a golden scarf on its chest, big black eyes and a long tail, all of which are not impressive at all. The adult yellow-throated martenis only more than 50 centimeters in length, and its weight is generally 5.5-6.6 pounds. This body type is second only to the "Wolverine" Gulo glulo and the fisher (Pekania pennanti) and belongs to the top three in the Guloninae subfamily.
Although the yellow throat marten is small, it is a warrior who dares to fight and never gives up. It is known as the "Wolf of the Mustelidae family" because of its agility and quickness, its sharp toes and wolf-like prey hunting.
It feeds on a wide range of species, including macaques, wild boars, tufted deer, gorals, ocelots, and even giant pandas. A few years ago, near the Baixiongping Conservation Station in Tangjiahe Reserve, Sichuan, staff found a severely injured wild giant panda with an abdominal injury accompanied by a partially exposed intestinal canal. The initial analysis was that it was attacked by several yellow-throated martens.
