Unlike other cypresses, this tree is cracked lengthwise and is greyish-brown in colour, similar to a cypress, but not as rough. The branches are not pendulous, and the scales are small and dense. The most peculiar thing is the fruit. Most cypress cones are spherical in shape, the fruit of this tree is slightly oval, smaller than a pine cone butlarger than a cypress cone, shaped like a pine cone but cracked like a cypress cone.
