The Journey: 70 Years of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway|Seeing Sichuan from Satellite--Chengdu-Chongqing Railway Featured

    The Chengdu-Chongqing Railway is China’s first-ever home-built railway since 1949. The 505km line first opened on July 1st, 1952.

    At that time, the distance between Chongqing and Chengdu was about 13 hours. In 2006, here came the inter-city rails. Suining–Chongqing Railway was officially opened with a speed of 160 km/h. The travel time between Chengdu and Chongqing was shortened to 4 hours. In 2015, here came the highspeed bullet train railways. Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway was opened with a speed of 300 km/h. The travel time was once again reduced to 1.5 hours. Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed Railway has thus becomes the fourth in China and the first in the southwestern region to operate at a maximum speed of 350 km/h.

    At present, the travel time between Chengdu and Chongqing has shortened from 2 days to 13 hrs. Over the years, the freight rates have slumped and transportation became more convenient. Let’s take a look at the 70 years of the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway:
