Today, Chengdu Shishi Middle School, located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, celebrates its 2162nd birthday.
According to historical records, in 141 B.C., at the end of Emperor Jing's reign in the Western Han Dynasty, Wen Weng, who was then the governor of Shu County, felt that Shu was remote, culturally backward and still had a barbarian culture, so he built a school at the southern gate of Chengdu and recruited children from all counties in Chengdu to enroll in the school, promoting education and founding the first local government-run school in Chinese history, which is now known as the Shi Shi Jing She. From more than 2162 years, the school has changed its name several times, but the site has never changed. It is known as "the oldest and longest-established middle school in China".
