The Trade Commission of Chile in Chengdu was officially inaugurated

BJT, Nov. 24TH, the 7TH Chile Week Chengdu officially kicked off, where the Trade Commission of Chile in Chengdu was officially inaugurated. This is the fifth Chilean commercial office in China, after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

At the event, Yang Yu, Commercial Representative of the Trade Commission of the Consulate General of Chile in Chengdu, said: “We hope that the establishment of the Chengdu office will strengthen the economic and trade relations between Chile and western China, deepen the local people’s understanding of Chile, and bring Chilean quality products and services to everyone”. It is reported that from Nov. 24th-27th, the “Chile Week” in Chengdu includes inauguration of ProChile in Chengdu and the Dinner of Flavors of Chile, a seminar on economic and trade exchanges between Sichuan and Chile, Leer a Pablo Neruda, “The Sound of Latin America - Chilean Voices” program and other four sections.

In July 2021, the Consulate General of Chile in Chengdu was opened. This is the first Latin American country to open a consulate in Sichuan, playing an important exemplary role in deepening cooperation between Sichuan and Latin America and other countries in the Hispanic world.

“China is a major trading partner and an important investor for Chile.” Gustavo Díaz, Consul General of Chile in Chengdu, said in his speech that Chile is a trusted strategic partner and seeks to be a base for China’s strategic development in South America as a participant in the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

For a long time, Chile has been one of the important countries for economic and trade cooperation and humanistic exchanges between Sichuan in Latin America. In recent years, the two sides have made fruitful and practical exchanges and cooperation in fields such as Sister City International cooperation, high-level visits, economic trade, agricultural science and technology, education and culture.

Sichuan Tianqi Lithium acquired Soquimich Comercial SA in December 2018, and the total overseas investment of the project is USD 4.066 billion, which is the largest overseas investment in Sichuan province and the largest cooperation project between China and Chile so far. It is worth mentioning that the Sichuan-Chile Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park is an agricultural cooperation project focused on by the Sichuan province and the Embassy of Chile in China. The project is located in Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu, the project planning 800 acres, in three phases of implementation, through the introduction of Chile’s excellent fruit tree varieties and advanced cultivation management technology, to create a set of planting demonstration, agricultural science and technology cooperation, Sino-Chilean cultural exchanges, trade cooperation as one of the idyllic complex, to promote the integration of agriculture and tourism new model.
