“果赖(过来)，果赖，果赖……泽儿(这儿)！”去过四川成都大熊猫繁育研究基地的猫粉们，应该对这样的喊声不陌生。

"Guolai(come), guolai, guolai... Ze'er (over here)!" If you've ever visited the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan, China, you've probably heard this call.

一声“果赖”，熊猫们纷纷响应。掌握“果赖召唤术”的就是饲养员谭金淘，他有一个更出圈的名字——谭爷爷。今年51岁的他，已经被游客们喊了十多年“爷爷”。

The moment "Guolai" rings out, pandas come tumbling over, eagerlyansweringthe summons.The master of this "Guolai incantation" is Tan Jintao, a panda raiser, affectionately known as Grandpa Tan. 51-year-old Tan hasbeen addressed as "Grandpa" by visitors for over a decade now.

它们都是“果赖”

1999年，27岁的谭金淘成为熊猫基地的饲养员，主要负责照顾一两岁的大熊猫。这个年纪，相当于人类从婴儿到儿童的过渡期，因此，他常说自己是一名早教老师，带了个“熊猫幼儿园”。

In 1999, 27-year-old Tan joined the Panda Base as a panda raiser, mainly taking care ofthe one-to-two-year-old cubs. In human terms, this is the transition period from infancy to childhood, and so, he often likenshimself totheteacherina "Panda Kindergarten".

2021年年底，“顶流”花花加入了“幼儿园”。谭爷爷说，花花个子比较矮，后肢力量差，性格不争不抢，因此时常被小伙伴抢食。

By the end of 2021, panda Huahua joined this "Kindergarten". According to Grandpa Tan, Huahua is somewhat shorter than others, with weaker hind legs and a gentle, uncompetitive nature. Consequently, her food is always robbed by other pandas.

于是每天下午，谭爷爷会给花花单独开小灶，并趁机给它辅导体育课——用食物引导它站起来，以此锻炼后肢力量。

Therefore, every afternoon, Grandpa Tan serves a special meal for Huahua and takesthis opportunity to coach herin "P.E. class"—encouraging Huahua to stand up for herfoodto strengthen herhind legs.

“果赖~果赖~果赖~”开饭前，谭爷爷总会用一口地道的四川话呼唤小家伙们。日复一日，“果赖”成了“幼儿园”小家伙们共同的名字，它们一听到这个声音就会马上跑来。

"Guolai, guolai, guolai!" Before the mealtime, Grandpa Tan always summons the little ones in Sichuandialect. Over time, "Guolai" has become a common name for the little fellows in the "Kindergarten". They come immediately when hearing it.

时常开小灶的花花，对“果赖召唤术”尤其敏感。“喊‘花花’不一定理人，喊‘果赖’就立马抬头。”不少网友开玩笑说，花花可能以为自己叫“果赖”。

Huahua, who often gets special treatment, is particularly responsive to the "Guolai incantation". "Calling 'Huahua' may not get a response, but 'Guolai' always perks herup," says Tan. Some netizens joke that Huahua might have misunderstood that hername is actually "Guolai".

30多岁的“爷爷”

“‘谭爷爷’是大家跟着猫儿们叫的。我照顾过的熊猫慢慢成了爸爸妈妈、爷爷奶奶，我的‘辈分’也跳跃式上升。”在30多岁的时候，谭金淘就有了“爷爷”的称号。

"People started calling me 'Grandpa Tan' following the pandas," Tan reflects. "The pandas I've cared for have becomeparents orgrandparents, and myseniority rose correspondingly." By his early thirties, Tan had already earned the title of "Grandpa".

如今，很多年龄跟他差不多甚至比他大的游客，见到他也会脱口而出“谭爷爷”。对此，他觉得，“大家这么喊很亲切。”

Today, many visitors around his age or even older call him "Grandpa Tan"unconsciously. But he finds this endearing.

目前，谭爷爷的“幼儿园”有6只熊孩子。为了更好地照顾它们，他经常住在熊舍旁边的小屋里，夜里一听到动静就立马起身查看。除了照顾饮食、打扫卫生，谭爷爷还要对它们进行行为训练。

Currently, Grandpa Tan's "Kindergarten" houses six panda cubs. To take better care ofthem, he often stays in a small cabin near the panda house, ready to check on any noise during the night. Aside from feeding and cleaning, he alsogives behavior training.

熊猫“摆渡人”

铁打的谭爷爷流水的猫。很多人将谭爷爷称为“摆渡人”，他将适龄小熊友接到“幼儿园”，长大后再送它们升班，24年来默默迎来送往。

While the pandas come and go, Grandpa Tan remains a constant. Many regard him as a "ferryman", welcoming the young pandas into the "Kindergarten" and then seeing them off when. He's been doing thisfor 24 years.

他记不清照顾过多少只熊猫，但只要望见它们的背影，就能准确地叫出名字。“每只大熊猫黑眼圈的形状、大小都不相同，熟悉起来后，远远看一眼就知道是哪只熊。”

He's lost count of pandas hehas takencare of, but he can still call each by their name at the sight of their silhouette. "Every panda has a unique shape and size to their eye patches. Once familiar, a quick glance from afar is enough to identify thepanda."

打扫卫生、搬运竹子竹笋、收集观察粪便、按时“收猫放猫”……在工作时间，谭爷爷的脚步很少能停下来。他形容自己的工作累并快乐着，“照顾熊猫我很有成就感，肯定尽我所能让它们健健康康、快快乐乐。”

Cleaning, carrying bamboo and shoots, observing droppings, and gettingthe pandas in or out... Grandpa Tan is always on the move during working hours. He describes his job as exhausting but fulfilling. "Taking care of pandas gives me a sense of accomplishment. I will do everything I canto ensure that they are healthy and happy."

面对最近网上的“熊猫热”，谭爷爷希望网友们对大熊猫的习性有更深的了解，更科学地爱护国宝。
