On Oct. 16th, 2022, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) opened in Beijing. Seeing Wu Dajing, the delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress and the China'sspeed skating Olympic champion on TV, the primary students in Mianyang, Sichuan Province were so excited.

In the interview, Wu Dajing recalled his life in Mianyang, "in Mianyang, Sichuan, we saw the kids skating. They are good skaters. They greeted us happily and told us that they fell in love with skating after watching our competitions. If more kids join in, there will be more and better skating athletes in the future."

It was in Qiyi Jiannanlu Primary School in Mianyang that Wu Dajing was impressed by the kids. To satisfy the skating-lovers, the school rented a field outside the school and hired skating coaches, setting up the skating lessons. "They learnt roller skating first, and got training in professional indoor skating rink later,"recalled Li Wei, the principal of Qiyi Jiannanlu Primary School.

In May 2016, the students met their idols: Li Yan, the head coach of China's national speed skating squad, and the speed skaters including Wu Dajing.

At that time, China's national speed skating squad led by Li Yan was being intensively trained in Chengdu. Having learnt that some primary school students were practicing skating out of passion, they visited and gave some advices.

The students practicing skating on the outdoor concrete field greatly impressed Wu Dajing and his teammates.

The speed skating squad's encouragement really inspired the students. Since 2016, roller skating and speed skating project has become a characteristic lesson in the school. Besides, a number of professional athletes have been developed from the school, including Song Jiarui who has been admitted to China's national speed skating squad.

"Previously, we only heard Northeast dialect on the training ground. But now, the dialects from everywhere of China can be heard here,"said Wu Dajing.
