On August 24, the archaeological excavation and extraction work within the Sanxingdui archaeology site was underway, and a number of cultural relics, including a 1-meter-long bronze beast, weighing nearly 300 catties, have been successfully extracted from No.8 sacrificial pit, which is currently the largest beast.

In addition to the giant bronze standing beast, the only openwork phoenix bird has also been extracted from No.8 pit.

Big mouth, standing ears, curly hair, thin waist, long tail, and thick legs… This beast looks "strong".

The reporter has learned that this giant bronze beast and the "machine dog" which was previously found in No.3 pit are of the same shape, but different size. Before then, in No.8 pit, at the top of the newly discovered artifacts "bronze altar", there was also a beast like this. Perhaps, in the eyes of the people of Sanxingdui, the beast was a very important ritual role.

The most special thing is that this beast has horns on the top of the head, and on the horns stands a thin man in a long robe. According to archaeologists, this man is probably driving the giant beast.

The chest of the beast is also engraved with a sacred tree. "The tree was cast directly on it, and it can be seen that the people of Sanxingdui worshipped the sacred tree, or had treated it as a kind of divine presence." Zhao Hao said. This is a new artifact type that has never been seen in the Sanxingdui archaeology site!

On August 23, archaeologists extracted the "chapiter phoenix bird", which is the largest and most complete piece of bird-shaped bronze found in Sanxingdui, and next to it is a beautiful "openwork phoenix bird".

Zhao Hao introduced that the shape of the "openwork phoenix bird" is special. Its wings are very long, even much longer than the body. In addition, unlike some previous bird-shaped bronzes, the whole body of this phoenix bird is openwork. Although there are some areas that have been mutilated, it's still a very beautiful artifact.

So far, No.3, 4, 5 and 6 pit have been sealed. No.5 and 6 pit have entered the laboratory archaeology. No.7 pit has entered the finishing stage. No.8 pit has extracted more than 6,000 pieces of numbered artifacts, and a total of nearly 14,000 numbered artifacts have been extracted in the Sanxingdui archaeology site.

The current field archaeological excavations in the Sanxingdui archaeology site will wrap up at the end of September, followed by a full shift from the field to the interior to start restoration, collection and research work.
