As a land of "thousands of rivers", Sichuan owns an intensive water network which nourishes the land and the lives.

Tuojiang River, originating from the South side of Jiuding Mountain, is especially significant among them. It has a developed system: the upstream of Tuojiang River is connected with Minjiang River system; the branches and the mainstream on the middle and down reach are symmetrically distributed, including the branches like Qiuxi River, Mengxi River, Fuxi River, Laixi River, etc.

Tuojiang River is not only the significant upstream branch of the Yangtze River, but also the important water body in the region with the most concentrated cities, the densest population and the greatest economic power in Sichuan. It has supported the one third of the total economic aggregate and over one fourth of the total population with 3.5 percent of the total water resources in Sichuan.
