Yellow river runs through the northwest of Sichuan, covering 18700 square kilometers, passing through Ruoergai County, Hongyuan County, Aba County, Songpan County, and Shiqu County. The average annual discharge is 460 cubic meters per second.

The Yellow river area in Sichuan is relatively plane. The river meanders through the flatland to the horizon, being regarded as the most beautiful Yellow river curve.

Sichuan Province seems to be the least noticeable one among the nine provinces where Yellow river flows through. The Yellow river mainstream in Sichuan is 174 kilometers, out of 5464 kilometers of the total length of Yellow river. The drainage area in Sichuan is 18700 cubic meters, accounting for 3.8% of the total area of Sichuan, and 2.4% of the total area of Yellow river area. However, Sichuan is an important water supplier of Yellow river and an indispensable part of Yellow river's ecological protection.
