On the evening of July 25th, outside the conference room of Zhenda Township, Shiqu County, Ganzi Prefecture, the current captain of the forestry protection team, Genga, arranged the members of the forestry protection team to enter the room in an orderly manner, to watch an upcoming film "Fight to the Death".

The archetypal story of the film is this forestry protection team. On that day, many people in the forestry protection team of Zhenda Township were wiping their tears after watching this film.

Zhenda Township, which is crossedby Jinsha River and Yalong River, is located in the junction of three provinces of Sichuan, Qinghai and Tibet. Theaverage altitude of Zhenda Township is about 3,500 meters, close to "China Water Tower", Source of Rivers, and animportant water-conserving area of upperreaches of Yangtze River and Yellow River. Township mayor Xiutao Zhu said, nearly 80% of the land in the township is woodlandand grassland –the township is rich in biological resources, and the ecological value is important, while the ecological environment is fragile.

Take practical actions to protect the green mountains. In 1998, Zhenda Township, together with the whole country, began to implement the natural forest resources protection project. Thus, the forestry protection team established on this background began to patrol and preserve for more than 20 years.

In the thousands of square kilometers of forests and alpine meadows, forest rangers have to confront various danger. They were in close combat with poachers armed with firearms, and were in the company with fierce beasts, etc.

They performed a scene of "fight to the death" through youth, passion and dreams.

Danger: Bulletsgrazed to the ear, close combat to subdue poachers

The forested Zhenda Township is akingdom of wild animals, including white-lipped deer, brown bears, roe deer, lynx and antelopes, as well as valuable Chinese herbs such as Cordyceps, Fritillaria and Rhodiola rosea.

One afternoon in the summer of 2016, the forestry protection team was informed that people were poaching on the mountain. After the first report to the township and the police station, the team immediately went up the mountain until late at night around 12 o'clock, following the sound of gunfire to find the poachers.

In the face of poachers armed with machetes, knives and shotguns, the first captain of the forestry protection team, Jiata, rushed up in a big stride, threw one of them to the ground, while the rest of the team went up together and fought the poachers. Duringthe close fight, one poacher pulled the trigger and banged a bullet that grazed Jiaba's ear. Finally, the poacherswere subdued by the forestry protection team.

Dueto the long years of hard filed work, irregular diet and overwork, many team members suffered from stubborn diseases. In addition to dry food, whatthey carry most when they go out to patrol is medicine. Jiata, who won the title of "the most beautiful patrolman" in Sichuanin 2020, developingincreasingly serve gastropathy, which eventually turned into gastriccancer, and sadly passed away in February last year.

Warmness: Takecare of the fawn like a child, sothat the fawn is inseparable from the host family

Duringthe long years of patrol, the team members also made many animal friends.

One day in 2018, forest rangers found a motherless fawn huddling at the edge of the cliff and trembling. After astudy by Forestry and Grassland Administration of Shiqu County, Jiata's family, especiallyJiata'swife, Bayao, was responsible for rescuing this fawn.

4 months later, the fawn grew up and drank 6 or 7 pounds of milk every day. Other team members also sent their own milk for the fawn to eat. Soon, this little guy became tall, strong and inseparable from the Jiaba's family.

However, nature is its true home. In the autumn of 2018, the fawn returned to the forest in the reluctant eyes of the crowd. Itstopped time to time on its way and looked back at Bayao who was wiping her tears.

For more than 20 years, the forestry protection team has rescued and released many wild animals. In order to better rescue them, Zhenda Township is building the first wildlife rescue station in Shiqu County.

Today, Shiqu County has established a total of 22 teams like the forestry protection team of Zhenda Township, covering all townships, involving 1,322 forest rangers, each with an annual subsidy of 7,300 yuan.

"We want to pass on the perseverance of forest rangers of Zhenda Township." The relevant person in charge of Forestry and Grassland Administration of Shiqu County said that, they will further increase investment in the future, strive to appropriately increase the ranger's subsidy, strengthen the supply of equipment, materials, and professional quality training, enhance the ability of modern patrol, train more reserve talents, and contribute to the building of the ecological barrier in the upper reaches of Yangtze River and Yellow River with higher quality patrol work.
