Lycaenidae is a kind of small-sized butterfly. They account for 30% to 40% of all the butterflies and have a lot of varieties. Heliophorus saphir is a kind of lycaenidae.

The wings of male heliophorus saphirs are golden blue in the early spring. The edge of the wings is black and the orange patterns at the underwings are strong which are normally vague. The wings of female heliophorus saphirs are dark brown. There's a big orange pattern on the middle of the front wing and a zigzag orange marginal zone.

The lycaenidaes including heliophorus saphirs are sensitive to environmental changes. The fluctuation of their quantities and types reflects the changes of the surrounding plants. Therefore, we need to protect the environment for the heliophorus saphirs.
