Taxus mairei mainly distribute in the south of the Yangtze River and usually live on the moist areas on the foot of hills. They grow in the valleys and beside the streams at the altitude of 1000-1500 meters, and require the fertile yellow earth and yellow brown earth, as well as the neutral soil and calcium soil.
Taxus mairei rarely suffer from the insect pestslive and live long. When the seeds grow mature, the arillus expand and turn red, looking like the Abrus precatorius in South China, attractive to birds and small mammals. What’s more, they’re green all year. With straight trunks, stretching branches, orderly leaves and pearl-like red fruits, they are beautiful ornamental plants.
