The Chinese hwamei is a perfect "forest singer". With beautiful and varied voice, they are good at singing and can sing for a whole day. They are regarded as the "King of the Timalia".
In fact, Chinese hwamei have advanced auditory organs. They usually sing for courtship and to drive away the competitors. Their sounds are like "Ruyi, Ruyi"(lucky, lucky) in Chinese, so the ancient Chinese people keep them at home as the lucky birds.
However, the Chinese hwamei have a strong sense of territory. In the mating season, when two male Chinese hwamei meet, there might be a battle which will even be fiercer if a female bird is around.
What's more, the Chinese hwamei is attached to its home and seldom migrate. They also pay attention to hygiene, and take bath almost everyday to clean their feathers. Therefore, the waterside is their favorite habitats.
