In monsoon, we can always find some little “ears” in the forests of the southern foothill of Qinling Mountains and the downstream of Bailong River.

These little parasitic “ears” living on the tree trunks are wood ears, the common edible mushrooms widely distributed and cultivated in our country. They taste soft and delicate. With rich protein, fat, sugar, various vitamin and mineral substance, they are honored as the “meat of vegetables”.

Qingchuan County, Sichuan Province is wood ears’ hometown. With great forest coverage and a moist climate, it’s the favorable cultivating area for mushrooms. The plantation of wood ears can be traced back to the Southern Song Dynasty(1127-1279).
