In the late spring and early summer, blue jacaranda along the streets in Xichang, Panzhihua, Chengdu and other cities in Sichuan Province are in full-blossom. Their petals fall as the wind blow, producing a blue “rain”.

Blue jacaranda are deciduous trees originated in South America and can reach 15 meters high. They prefer warmth, moisture and sun but can’t resist frost and snow. Blue jacaranda was introduced into Xichang in 1994 and has been developed from 600 to 50000. The blue jacaranda trees in Hangtianbei Road of Xichang are old and in a big scale. In the period of blossom, hordes of tourists come here, turning it into a heat spot. In 2020, blue jacaranda was elected to be the city tree of Xichang.
