In the middle- and high-altitude canyons in the upper reaches of the Dadu River in Sichuan Province, there is a kind of "four-legged snake" with a special color. It inhabits the hillside roadside orbetween the rocks of the wasteland. It is mostly active at noon. Although it looks a bit like a dinosaur, it is very timid and will quickly hide when it is frightened. This "four-legged snake" is Diploderma flaviceps.

It is recorded that the diploderma flaviceps has irregular dark horizontal stripes on the back of the head, and the longitudinal stripes of female diploderma flavicepsare thinner and narrower. Males have a brown head and ventral surface and a green throat capsule, while females have a white head and ventral surface with dark longitudinal lines or reticulation.

They feed on the larvae of locusts, wasps, and butterflies, insects such as aspen, and polypods. They lay eggs in August or later, four to seven at a time.
