The common impression of birds is that males are more colourful than females. However, there is a special species of birds. The females are far more beautiful than the males, and the males do the work of incubating the eggs and bringing up the babies. This bird is the greater painted-snipe.
The greater painted-snipe is usually 25cm in length, slightly smaller than the mandarin duck, and the female is slightly larger than the male.
In the greater painted-snipe society, gender roles are also "inverted". Except for laying eggs, which is irreplaceable, female greater painted-snipes can also do things that only the males of other birds can do!
For example, as soon as the breeding season arrives, female greater painted-snipes will put on brightly colouredbreeding plumage and begin singing "love songs" in pursuit of males. Before courtship, the female will usually occupy a piece of territory, prohibiting other females from entering. When a "husband" is attracted, the male bird will build the nest.
