    The Chinese high-fin banded shark, with the name of "The Asian Mermaid", is a rare freshwater fish species unique to China. The wild populations can be traced in the Yangtze River and Minjiang River.

    The Chinese high-fin banded sharkis peculiar in shape, bright and gorgeous in colour, elegant and quiet in swimming posture and habit. The young fish can be seen in many aquarium shops.

    In the young stage, the Chinese high-fin banded shark is not beautiful. Its body is brown, with three brown-black stripes on the sides and a high dorsal fin.

    However, throughadulthood, the three stripes gradually disappear and are replaced by a black stripe thatruns across the body. Moreover, its body colourhas also changed dramatically. Itswhole body becomes red, and its cheeks become pink, which looks like the rouge applied toa girl’s cheeks. Therefore, the literal translation of its Chinese name is "rouge fish".
