With green leaves, white flowers and red seeds, dozens of unique plants from Mount Emei -Parakmeria omeiensis, grow in Chengdu Botanical Garden and Sichuan Huaxi Subalpine Botanical Garden. Researchers hope that this endangered species can grow in areas other than Mount Emeiand be promoted and applied in urban greening construction.

The parakmeria omeiensisis a kind of evergreen tree. Mature trees can reach up to 25 meters in height and 40 cm in diameter at breast height. When this magnolia species blooms, the flowers are milky white, which is not much different from ordinary magnolias, but it is extremely rare in the wild natural environment.

In 1940, the parakmeria omeiensiswas discovered for the first time. It was never seen again and was once suspected to be extinct in the wild. As of 2017, only 74 plants have been found in the wild, all of which are located on cliffs.

To save this rare species, researchers started related research work as early as the 1980s. At present, scientific and technical personnel have made breakthroughs in the artificial propagation, relocation and conservation, and field return of the parakmeria omeiensis, which has become a successful model for saving and protecting endangered wild plants in Sichuan Province.
