Frog: Do Frogs Have Teeth?

March 20 is the World Frog Day.
People in Sichuan--especially those who live in the rural areas--are particularly familiar with the frogs. They are creatures with bulging eyes like bright light bulbs, and when they blink, their eyes are like the stage’s curtain, opening, and closing. In greenish coats, frogs are little “rangers” hidden in the lush field, hard to be found.
Do frogs have teeth? There’s a row of tiny teeth on their upper jaws. But unlike humans who use their teeth to chew food, frogs use their small teeth to hold onto their prey and keep food from escaping out of their mouths.
Frogs play a significant role in maintaining the ecological balance. However, due to global climate change, environmental pollution, invasive alien species, animal trafficking, poaching, and fungal infection, more than 30% of frogs are endangered or extinct on earth. The number of wild populations of many species is also declining.
To protect the frogs, we should start with themselves. Do not buy, capture or eat wild frogs. We should protect the wetlands and forests and reduce the use of pesticides chemical fertilizer so that we still can hear their voices in rural and urban areas.
