每年的3月9日是保护母亲河日。“保护母亲河行动”由共青团中央等八部门于1999年初发起，组织青年以保护哺育中华民族和一方人民的“母亲河”——黄河、长江及其它主要江河为主题，引导青少年和社会公众更加普遍地参与资源节约和生态环保实践，促进我国资源节约型、环境友好型社会的建设。
