This deer has a white lower lip, extending all the way to the upper part of the throat and the sides of the muzzle, hence the name "white-lipped deer". Like the Giant Panda and the Yangtze crocodile, itis a rare animal endemic to China.

白唇鹿是大型鹿类，成年后身形似马匹，颈部很长，臀部有淡黄色的斑块。因头上长着树杈状的鹿角，仙气十足，所以在栖息地白唇鹿被称为“神鹿”，在更新世纪晚期的地层中就发现了它们的化石，也证明它们是一个十分古老的物种。
