They stare at you with a pair of white, small eyes on the greenish black head, as if murmuring, ” Hey, what are you looking at!”

它叫青头潜鸭，顾名思义，头是青色的，收录为世界自然保护联盟红色名录极危物种。据媒体公开报道，青头潜鸭全球数量不足1000只。对观鸟爱好者来说，能拍到青头潜鸭是极为幸运的事儿。每看到一只，就是“千分之一的遇见”。

It's called the green-headed pochards as its name suggests, and is listed as endangered species on the IUCN Red List. There are in all reportedly fewer than 1,000 pochards worldwide. For bird-watchers, capturing a pochard is exceptionally lucky, the chances of which are one in a thousand.

青头潜鸭雌鸟和雄鸟的外形特征差不多，但从远处看，雄鸟的眼睛是白色的，雌鸟的眼睛则不白。

The female and male pochards share similar physical characteristics, except that looking from the distance the male's eyes are white, while the female's are not.

青头潜鸭为迁徙性鸟类，冬季多栖息在湖泊、江河、水塘等地带，对栖息环境有着很高的要求，堪称环境质量好坏的“指标生物”。高温天气、洪涝、强降水和人类活动都有可能导致青头潜鸭繁殖失败。

Pochard is a migratory bird that inhabits lakes, rivers, ponds in winter and has high requirements on the environment, therefore called a " natural indicator " of environmental quality. High temperatures, flooding, heavy rainfall, and human activities can all lead to breeding failure.

合群，或许是青头潜鸭能够持续繁衍的一大生存法则。它们平时喜欢与白眼潜鸭、凤头潜鸭或其他野鸭混群，潜入水中取食各种水草的根、叶、茎和种子。它们的另一个特点是很少鸣叫，可能认同“祸从口出”这个理。

Sociability may be one of the survival principles for the pochards. They usually live with the white-eyed pochards, crested pochards, and other wild ducks. They dive for the roots, leaves, stems, and seeds of various aquatic plants. They rarely chirp, possibly agreeing with the principle that "misfortune comes out of the mouth."

近年来，青头潜鸭在成都、德阳、西昌、内江、雅安、攀枝花等地现身。

In recent years, green-headed pochards have been spotted in Chengdu, Deyang, Xichang, Neijiang, Ya 'an, and Panzhihua.
