"Trees often carry the meaning of life," Armen Gevorgyan said when asked about the inspiration for creation. "People often coincidentally think about the connection between life and the universe, and often relate it with trees, trying to seek the mysteries between them."

Armen Gevorgyan is an artist from Armenia specializing in painting, who enjoys expressing the themes of artworks with rich colour combinations. Been in Chengdu for 6 years, he enjoys the local life very much and always spends his time reading, practicing Taichi, and learning tea culture. He likes the hospitable people, and enjoys the warm and humid weather and the charming old buildings.

Armen was invited to the Sanxingdui Museum several times and bought this little miniature souvenir of the bronze sacred tree. If asked to describe Sanxingdui with three words, he would choose strength, bravery and imagination. Strength and bravery are shown through the overall shape and texture of the Gold Mask, and imagination is reflected in every piece of the cultural relics such as the bronze sacred tree which allows him to jump out of the reality to create a variation of tree “stemming from life but surpassing life”.

In this work, Armen adopted varied colours to show the unrest of the universe, and the tree reappeared in the original colour on the vast land, with nine birds standing tall above the branches.

“I try to study the ideas of Laozi, who once said that the three begets all things of the world,”Armen said, “So I’d like to interpret from this point. The sacred tree has 3 branches and 3 birds on each level. The tree itself is connected to the earth, and the birds connecting the universe are like mediators between different worlds. The whole painting is trying to tell people that all lives originate from the earth.” People always talk about “me” and the “universe” and also much about the protection of the environment, but never think about changing their own behaviors. “People consider the world as a shop where you can get all you need without paying for it.” Armen thinks that it’s about time that we see that we are part of this world and universe, and what we are doing to them is what we are doing to ourselves. Protection should start by ourselves.

See the universe from the angle of the bronze sacred tree. Armen Gevorgyan created a colourful painting and tried to grasp the secrets of the universe. This work of Coloured Sanxingdu, not only shows the charm of the cultural relics from the perspective of art, but also shows the origin of the lives and the importance of environmental protection from the angle of philosophy, which is quite meaningful to us all.
