Be creative! Let's colour for Sanxingdui!

    In 1986, in Sichuan's Guanghan city, two sacrificial pits were discovered inthe Sanxingdui site, captivating the world with the glimpse they offered into the ancient Shu Kingdom's civilization. 35 years later, in 2021, two archaeological discoveries of 6 more sacrificial pits were announced in quick succession, and a large number of exquisite cultural relics broughtthe Sanxingdui site to the world's attention once again.

    In June this year, as the cultural relics in No.7 and No.8 sacrificial pits are going to be extracted, Sanxingdui will once again become an exemplary showcase for mutual learning and exchange between civilizations of China and the world. On this occasion, the Sichuan International CommunicationCenter and Chuanguan News are set to cooperate with the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archeology Research Institute and Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Sichuan, to launch the 'Coloured Sanxingdui' Chinese culture global promotion.

    Channeling the explorative, innovative, and proactive spiritsof 'Generation Z', the 'Coloured Sanxingdui' Chinese culture global promotion will show peoplefrom around the globe(especially overseas 'Generation Z') the spectacular ancient Shu Kingdom'scivilization through online interactions and offline collaborations. This enables the spectacular achievements of Chinese civilization to further shine on the global stage.

    Since the Sanxingdui cultural relics are imbued with the ancient Shu Kingdom's extraordinary imagination, the 'Coloured Sanxingdui' event has taken as its inspiration the idea of 'colouring' the line drawings of unearthed Sanxingdui cultural relics, and invites people around the world to demonstrate their talent by taking part. In this way, the relics are endowed with renewed vitality, and Sanxingdui's glamor is spread to the world through the universal art of painting.

    The organizers will initiate an open call for works on global social media, with a number of blank line drawings and cultural relics introductions being posted every day and a selection of those collected outstanding works being published. It is being reported that in addition to inviting foreign students studying in Sichuan to 'colour' the Sanxingdui line drawings, plans have been made for artists from Jingdezhen (another famously and historically artistic city in China) to also create works for the event. Theseartistswill takethe Sanxingdui cultural relics' line drawings as a blueprint, and 'colour' these relics with a diverse range of artistic techniques, including ceramic sculpture, graffiti, coloured drawing and porcelain plate painting. Additionally, well-known Sichuan artists willcapture the 'artistic' character of Sanxingduiin oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, and new media artforms. Moreover, 'life artists' from all walks of life will also give full play to their skills in their respective fields to integrate the Coloured Sanxingdui with their own occupations.

    The 'Coloured Sanxingdui' Chinese culture global promotion will showcase excellent works through special activities by Sichuanoverseas media networksrepresented by @Center and @Sanxingduiculture, Sichuan Daily's official Douyin, Weibo and bilibiliaccounts,as well asonSanxingdui archeologybilibili account. Meanwhile, overseas social media accounts, social media influencers, museums, and community participation from related fields will be coordinated to take part in collaborative communication presentations to exhibit the brilliance of Chinese civilization.
