Qiqu Mountain: the birthplace of Wenchang culture
 

Zitong County, Mianyang City is the birthplace of Wenchang culture in China.

In ancient China, the students would worship the Lord Wenchang who is believed to be in charge of the knowledge, before the exams. Qiqu Mountain Temple located in Zitong County is the origin of Wenchang Culture.

Unlike the other traditional ancient Chinese buildings, Qiqu Mountain Temple was built along the mountain. The present 23 pavilions and palaces show the combination of northern and southern architectural styles, representing the amazing skills of the ancient craftsmen. They are regarded as the important examples for the study on the history of China’s buildings.
