The study found that oranges and sugar mandarinoranges have about the same amount of sugar, but why do sugar mandarin oranges taste sweeter? It turns out that the sweetness of fruit is not only related to the sugar content, but also to the type of sugar contained and the sweet-to-sour ratio.

Sugar mandarin oranges are high in fructose and glucose, and they accumulate during storage. So the longer sugar mandarin orangesare stored, the sweeter they become.

In addition, compared to other citrus counterparts, the sugar mandarinorange contains lower ratio of organic acids, which also contributes to its sweetness.
