A father and his son from Taiwan, staying in Liangshan

“今年肯定会丰收啦。” 在四川凉山州冕宁县宏模镇优胜社区，台湾青年林书任笑着走下台阶，沿着笔直的公路拐进山，眼前绵延2.5万亩的油橄榄一片葱郁。

"It will be a harvest year."Lin Shuren, a young man from Taiwan who now works in Hongmo Town, Mianning County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, went down the stairs, walking along the straight road into the mountain where 25,000 acres of lush and green olive trees were spreading out in front of him.

2011年，林书任的父亲，台商林春福从台北抵达凉山，立志要产出全世界最好的橄榄油。在此后11年里，他将油橄榄的种植面积从最初的600亩，扩大到如今的2.5万亩，带着当地6100余户农户脱贫。2013年，林书任在北京大学入学后，每年至少要到四川凉山3次，从橄榄油销售，到对外讲述凉山脱贫故事，再到支教，凉山不知不觉成为了他的未来。

In 2011, his father, Lin Chunfu, a Taiwan merchant, arrived Liangshan Prefecture from Taipei with the ambition of producing the best olive oil in the world. In the following 11 years,he has expanded the plantation of olive trees from 600 acres to 25000 acres, and helped over 6100 villagers got rid of poverty. After entering Peking University in 2013, Lin Shuren had to visit Liangshan at least three times per year. At first, he helped sell olive oil. Later, he transmitted Liangshan’s poverty-alleviation stories to people outside, and invited classmates and public interest organizations to teach here voluntarily. Liangshan Prefecture gradually became his future.

林春福祖籍广东，在台北长大。他的青春，前半段见证了台湾经济的腾飞，后半段沉浮大陆改革开放的浪潮。他记得自己整个小学都是赤脚上学，记得1983年第一次回乡祭祖，感受到广阔天地的机遇。1991年，他到深圳办厂，迎着改革开放的春风，企业越做越大，直到成为全球最大的工艺品制造商之一。

Lin chunfu was born in Guangdong Province and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan Province. He witnessed the boom of Taiwan’s economy as well as the opening-up in Chinese mainland. He remembered that he went to primary school with bare feet, and that he sensed the opportunities when he first visited his hometown in 1983. In 1991, He started his business in Shenzhen. Thanks to the opening-up policy, his company developed into one of the biggest craft manufacturer globally.

曾经的林春福，是在深圳打拼多年的成功企业家。60岁时，他突然决定，要种橄榄。林春福用了大半年的时间，探访了欧洲多个传统的油橄榄种植大国后，最后聚焦在了四川凉山。

However, the successful businessman made a decision in 60: to start the olive business. Having investigated the olive planting areas in Europe, he eventually chose Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

外地人，不会彝语，还要征用土地，种的还是没听过的植物，村民很难信任这个“不速之客”。

As a stranger who couldn’t speak Yi language and required for the land to plant something unknown, Lin Chunfu was not accepted by the villagers at the very beginning.

父亲林春福便蜗居在村委会的办公室里，白天借着村里唯一一台老桑塔纳，挨家挨户做动员。和年轻创业时一样，林春福得到了当地政府的帮助，是村干部带着他挨家挨户拜访，帮着他翻译。

He lived in the office of village committee. By day, he borrowed the only Santana in the village and mobilize villagers from door to door. Fortunately, he was supported by the government again just like that when he was young. The village cadre took him to visit villagers and interpret for him.

2014年，林春福试种的600亩油橄榄全部成活，初产榨油960公斤。第一批出租土地的农民们也尝到甜头，不仅有了工作，还拿到了租金。然而，新的问题又出现了，资金不足，作为台胞的林春福，贷款很困难。最后在当地政府的帮助下，他们融资拿到2000万人民币。“有位当地干部说，两岸是一家，台湾同胞在凉山的发展，要全力支持。”

In 2014, the olive trees of 600 acres all survived, producing 960 kilos of oil. The villagers who lent the land initially got jobs and money. However, there came the new problem: lack of capital. As a Taiwanresident, it’s not easy for Lin Chunfu to get loans. Again, with the local government’s help, they finally borrowed 20 million yuan. "A local cadre said that people from Taiwan and mainlandare family. We should fully supportTaiwanresidents' careers in Liangshan."

We Have A Dream

其实，林书任从没想过要和父亲的事业产生联系。“我觉得我和老爹，更像是冤‘家’的‘家’。”在北大读博期间，林春福不给他生活费，让他卖橄榄油，每瓶能有10块钱提成。林书任不想服软，为了更好销售，开始一次次来到凉山。

In fact, Lin Shuren has never thought of joining father’s business. "I think we’re like'enemies' more than family."Lin Shuren said. When he was studying Ph.D in Peking University, instead of offering allowance, Lin Chunfu asked him to sell olive oil. He could get 10 yuan if he sold a bottle of it. To promote the sale, Lin Shuren started to pay quarterly visit to Liangshan.

慢慢的，每一次抵达他都会有新发现：油橄榄的种植面积增加了、公路修到了村子里、父亲在当地有了大碗喝酒的新朋友……“精准扶贫”“脱贫攻坚”这些新闻中的词汇，在他面前有了更为具象的呈现。林书任觉得自己好像理解了石头一样顽固的父亲。他也开始习惯在凉山完全不同的另一种生活。他觉得自己也应该为这里做点什么。

He always found something new every time he came here. The plantation was expanded, the roads were built, the factories were constructed, father had known some new friends…The terms like "poverty alleviation"which he always heard from the news became specific to him. Lin Shuren felt that he started to understand his stubborn father. He began to blend in the brand-new life in Liangshan and felt that he should do something for this area.

在父亲的全力支持下，这个夏天，林书任和北京的一家公益机构正在探索将“可持续发展与乡村教育支持项目”常态化，并将支教延展至线上辅导，保证项目的长期性和连贯性。

In this summer, with his father’s support, Lin Shuren cooperated with a public interest organization in Beijing to explore the normalization of rural supporting education and online education to sustain its stability and consistency.

父亲不再把儿子看作没长大的孩子，儿子也开始认识到父亲的睿智。

Lin Chunfu found that his son had grown up. Lin Shuren also started to understand his father’s wisdom.

在林书任看来，父亲那一辈的台商，更有匠人精神，愿意在生产技术上不断革新、品质上不断创新。“我们这代人生长在互联网时代，我们更了解市场，对营销的手法、用户习惯，比上一辈多一些了解。两代人的结合，往往能发挥两代人不同的特点。”

In Lin Shuren’s opinion, the Taiwanmerchantsof his father’s generation are more diligent and innovative than young people. They reform the production technology to improve the quality. "As young people growing up in the time of Internet, we know the market, strategies and users’ expectations. The cooperation of two generations gave play to our different strengths."

今年年初，凉山州明确将全面推进安宁河谷综合开发，打造“农业硅谷”。于是，整个春天，林春福时常去县上，和当地政府讨论，如何将橄榄产业扩大化。“我们有信心，发展出凉山的油橄榄，四川的油橄榄，乃至中国的油橄榄。”林春福说。林书任则希望未来能在安宁河谷打造出连片康养地带，“三产融合，当地村民能都发展起来，开民宿、小吃这些。”

At the beginning of this year, the government of Liangshan Prefecture laid the plan to develop Anninghe Valley and build the "Agricultural Silicon Valley". Lin Chunfu often came to the county to discusswith the government on the expansion of olive industry. "We have faith in ourselves to produce olive of Liangshan, of Sichuan, even of China."

Lin Shuhua, on the other hand, wanted to build a sanatorium in Anninghe Valley. "Integrating the three industries so that the villagers can run hotels and restaurants and get better lives."

如今，父子俩时常会沿着橄榄田向上行驶到最高处，从林书任参与打造的观景台上俯瞰，他们相信，“我们的油橄榄增种到10万亩，绝对可以。”

Now, the father and son often drive to the top of mountain along the olive field and overlook from viewing platform whose construction Lin Shuren took part in. They believe that "we can definitely expand the olive trees to 100,000 acres."
