Whatcomes to your mindwhen talking about Chinese culture? Hanfu must be one of the answers. As the traditionalcostume of Han nationality, Hanfu not only played an important role in Chinesehistory, but is also popularin modern China andeven the world.
In Chengdu, there's a "Hanfu grandpa" who started to try Hanfu in an old age. In recent days, he has become quite famous for looking like Du Fu and Su Shi.
On New Year's Day2023, 69-year-old Chen Guangxian was a bit busy with his "schedule". Wearingabrick-red robe and a black hat, he sat on an antique dark-brown wooden boat and wanderedleisurely. The wooden boat departed from Chengdu's East Gate Pier and traveled along the Jinjiang River in the brightly lit night in Chengdu.
After the performance, Chen Guangxian posed for a photo with other partners dressed in Hanfu, only to see a fan unfolded in his hand - with four large brush characters written on the fan: "Grandpa in Hanfu".
Chen Guangxian was once a photography enthusiast, since he was interested in traditional culture and Hanfu, he gradually became acquainted with his partners in the Hanfu circle in Chengdu. Then, he turned from a "part-time" photographer into a "full-time" Hanfu player. Chen Guangxian deliberately grew a long white beard and hair. Coupled with his original thick eyebrows, he can almost wear the Hanfu in ancient flavor without makeup.
Sometimes, Chen Guangxian puton the light gray Hanfu and wanders along the Jinjiang River, resembling the Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu; sometimes, he wanders in the riverside woods, wearing a blue and red interwoven robe, holding a fan on the bridge, looking like the open-minded and liberal poet, Su Shi. In winter, he came to the snowy mountains, carrying a bamboo basket and a pot of tea, in straw raincoat and straw hat, as if an old man fishing on a lonely boat in winter. His image is really versatile. Chen Guangxian said, "I didn't deliberately perform as Su Shi or Du Fu, but people just called me in this way."
The older people also have their own manner for Hanfu. Chen Guangxian has a variety of belts at home to match different costumes. In addition, he also found a bowl-thick wooden root from a yard sale, which just pretends to be an antique walking stick to go with Hanfu.
Chen Guangxian said the Hanfu lovers he knew were basically the Generation Z. The children respect this old man, who is also a good friend of them.
"Hanfu is not exclusive to the young people, but for all ages." Chen Guangxian said that many older people are interested in Hanfu and have asked him for tips, but most of them are too shy to put it on. "In fact, you don't have to be shy, once you get used to it, you will become more confident gradually!"
Shi Qian, executive director of Hanfu Culture Committee of Sichuan Traditional Culture Promotion Association, said that at present, there are about 300,000 people wearing Hanfu in Chengdu, and 80% of them are Generation Z.
"The costumes carry a sense of beauty and aesthetic taste, and represent one's identity and self-confidence in national culture." According to Shi Qian, there are more and more people who like to incorporate Hanfu into their daily lives, and it is becoming increasingly popular among young people.
