2023 ITF WORLD TENNIS TOUR JUNIOR FINALS TO RETURN TO CHENGDU

    The ITF has announced today that the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals will take place at theSichuan International Tennis Center,Chengdu, China from 16 to 22 October 2023.Previously, Chengdu has successfully hosted the tournament from 2015 to 2019. This year, the tournament will be held in partnership with the China Tennis Association, the Chengdu Chengdu sports bureau and the Chengdu Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau in Shuangliu District.

    The Tour includes over 800 tournaments held in 140 countries, and there are seven levels of tournament – J30, J60, J100, J200, J300, J500, and Junior Grand Slams.The Finals will consist of the top eight boys and girls in the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals Qualification Rankings, which shall consider results achieved in the 52-week period up to Monday 11 September 2023.

    Chinese junior tennis player Zhou Yi is currently ranked 6th for boys. If he can maintain his ranking until September 11, he will come to Chengdu and compete on his "home turf" for the finals trophy.

    Casper Ruud, finalist of the 2022 US Open and French Open; Taylor Fritz, currency No.1 US tennis player; Elena Rybakina, Champion of Wimbledon, and Leylah Fernandez, 2021 US Open finalist, have all made appearances at the event.

    David Haggerty, ITF President said: “The ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals is a prestigious event that is always a really exciting way to end the juniors season, and I am looking forward to seeing the potential stars of the future competing in Chengdu. The event provides the ideal platform for players to progress through the ITF World Tennis Tour, which is the main artery into the top levels of the game, so this event is a significant milestone for some of the most talented young players in the world and we’re pleased to bring it back to China.”

    The Sichuan International Tennis Center is not only the host venue for this year's ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals but also the venue for the FISU World University Games tennis tournament. Liu Bin, the competition manager of the Sichuan International Tennis Center, told reporters: "The venues of the FISU World University Games are almost ready. There are 36 tennis courts at Sichuan International Tennis Center, including competition, spare, and training courts. The center court will have 32 courts for the FISU World University Games competition and training."

    Qin Peijin, head of the venue operation team of Sichuan International Tennis Center, said preparations for the FISU World University Games are underway. The Chengdu Junior Tennis Championship is planned to be held around June 10 as a tennis venue test event.

    The Chengdu extensive fitness program is currently underway. Liu Bin said that the Sichuan International Tennis Center, as well as being a major competition venue, has also become a competition and training place for many companies, schools, and tennis clubs. The venue is open to the public during regular times, from 9 to 10 every day and from 8 to 10 on weekends, making it a favorite place for tennis fans in Chengdu. People often have to make reservations several days before booking the venue.
